Wow! ‘Hard to believe it’s already 2008. We hope you have a happy, healthy, prosperous New Year. We survived the big storms of January 4th-6th, suffering only the loss of a few tree limbs and a lot of sweeping up. The power went out before we could send a broadcast to our Storm Watchers Club.
It’s a good thing, too, because road closures would have prevented them from getting here. Now, “Weather’s beautiful, wish you were here!”

Your Guide to Winter on the North Coast
Uncrowded. Blooming. Awesome waves. Food and wine. Make the most out of this special season
 |
Uncrowded: It’s a quality not always available. Imagine not having to fight traffic or wait in line for anything.
Flowers: There’s always something abloom, here. Winter brings back our glorious Calla Lilies. Eastcoaster’s report paying upwards of $6.00 a stem.. and here, they grow wild. You’ll find them and much, much more at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.
Spectacular Surf: When high and low pressure systems swap positions along the coast, the waves are absolutely awesome. Especially great breakers viewing can be found just south of the Inn, at the Point Arena Lighthouse and at the Arena Pier.
Whales: ‘Seems folks are never sure about when the whales come and go along the coast. Mystery solved! The nortbound migration is at its height in March and April, and we have not one, but two local festivals to celebrate their return.
Food & Wine: While several of the region’s better restaurants take a hiatus during the first calendar quarter, there are many to choose from, including our own ‘ZEBO, open — subject to occupancy — Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Crab, Mushrooms, Wine and more… 2008 is the first year of the Taste Mendocino festival, Celebrating Regional Bounty, January 25th thru February 10th. This new event kicks off with a weekend of fresh shellfish and wine events beginning Friday,
January 25, 2008 on the Coast.

Surveys: Tell Us What You Want and Win a Prize
Who better than you, to tell us how to make the most out of your visits?
We may have overloaded you recently with survey announcements in our Newsletter. The number of folks who participated was unusually low. So we’re asking those of you who are interested in helping to set the direction for the inn — and winning drawings for prizes, free services and even visits — to “opt-in.” It’s easy! Just click below, to add your email address to our special, secure contact file. We’ll send you periodic questionnaires and when you respond, we’ll enter you into a prize drawing.

Comings and Goings
Meet Our New Staff |

|
Our wonderful Chef Jeremy was lured away to a start-up, new restaurant in Oregon. We thank him for helping make ‘ZEBO an icon here on the South Mendocino Coast, and wish him incredible success.
We’re proud to announce Chef Kristy Wilson as our new Chef de Maison. A local favorite, her background includes successful runs at the Moose Café, Harbor House and the Heritage House. Kristy continues our tradition of fine dining, organic ingredients, flavorful infusions and creative presentation.
Welcome PJ Kennedy. Introducing herself on the phone as “PJ, like
pajamas,” Paula June Kennedy is a “June of many trades” and master of them all. PJ works our books and daily miracles for guests as an
Inn Keeper, Reservation Agent and knowledgeable Concierge. We adore her, and know you will, too.
Introducing “Mr. Big.” Our beloved “house mouser," 17-year old Lucy, passed away in October. Her passing left a hole in our hearts and a cool spot on our laps. She originally belonged to former owner Hildrun Uta-Triebess’ daughter, Molly (of Molly’s Garden). Lucy spent most of her early life as a “closeted recluse,” appearing only once every 3 weeks or so to ply us with a brief, few minutes of intense affection. But in her later years, she whiled away many hours in David’s lap, and took on the role of mascot, often greeting guests as they arrived or walked about. As luck would have it, on a trip to Ft. Bragg, we discovered “Mr. Big” at the ASPCA shelter. They made us wait until after Halloween to bring him home, holding off on adoptions of all black cats for fear of abuse. Horrors! Happily, he’s turned out to be 16 lbs. of pure love and entertainment. Meow!
