Meet the New Surfsong
Main Cottage-Inspired Theme of Ocean Blue and White

The “love-it-or-hate-it” controversy is over! The dancing seahorses have been put out to pasture  — the heavy, maroon velvet trim donated to the local rummage sale. Now, fresh, clean, airy and bright ocean blue and white décor open up Surfsong to the sea. The theme is decidedly nautical. True to its name, the room features a reproduction mermaid “trade sign”, suspended above the picture window, chanting her siren song. The completely new bathroom, done in matching blue and white tile — makes Surfsong the only cottage to feature a tub. Other highlights include a painted cottage-pine floor, wrought iron bed, French bergière chairs, and a brass telescope for whale and bird watching. It’s still one of the best rooms at the inn to curl up with a great book and occasionally gaze out to sea.

The North Coast: "Best Getaway in North America"
The fabulous and breathtaking route up the coast on Highway 1 ranked #4 with 4-star rating

After analyzing more than 350,000 votes from site visitors, AllGetaways.com announced its first annual ranking of Top Getaways, based on destination popularity in 2005. This list represents the most popular getaway travel destinations in North America.

In its announcement, the reviewers wrote, “This 209-mile-long drive borders the Pacific coast north of San Francisco. The highway passes historic sites, redwood forests, abrupt headlands, sandy beaches, windswept coves, and numerous recreation areas. It traverses steep, wave-carved headlands, quiet sandy coves, grassy terraces punctuated by grazing cattle, towering redwood trees in moist canyons, long sweeping beaches, and dense woodlands of oak and pine. The shoreline, called the Sonoma-Mendocino Coast for its two counties, is a wildly beautiful meeting of sea and land. Much of the area is protected by numerous state beaches and parks. Special attractions: Muir Woods National Monument, Point Reyes National Seashore, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, San Andreas Rift Zone, Sonoma Coast State Beach, Goat Rock, Fort Ross State Historic Park, Salt Point State Park, Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve, Point Arena Lighthouse, Manchester State Beach, Van Damme State Park, Mendocino Headlands State Park, Mendocino, Fort Bragg, Westport Union Landing State Beach, camping, hiking, redwoods, beaches, rock climbing, and scenic views.”

But you already knew that, so, make the most of your next visit. Get out and experience all that our counties have to offer.

Take a long drive with me on California One,
where the road a winding goes,
from Golden Gate to roaring cliffsides,
          and the light  softly glows,
as our hearts become sweetly untied
‘neath the sun, on California One

Take a long down with me on California wine,
and the wine, it tastes so sweet
as we lay our eyes to wonder,
where the sky stretches so deep,
and we rest our heads to slumber,
‘neath the vine of California wine,
‘neath the sun on California One
