It’s spring, again! The signs are everywhere. The Barn Swallows and Goldfinches are back, affording great entertainment outside the dining room at breakfast. The Rhodies and Azaleas are shouting their brilliant colors. The hills are dappled with the blues of Lupine, Ceanothis, Bluebells, Lavender and Vinca, highlighted by splashes of yellow and orange California Poppies and Daffodils, all scented with Alyssum and ocean air, warmed by the sun. Ahhh…

It’s All About the Food
Great new breakfast fare and Entrees at ‘ZEBO

'ZeboWe’re firm believers of “If it aint broke, don’t fix it!” And we know you love our breakfasts. But after 5 years, we felt it was time for a few changes. We think you’ll like them — eggs benedict, sweet fruit crepes, tangy hash browns, fluffy breakfast pizza (you read it right), a variety of savory quiche, scones and cinnamon buns. And to deliver these treats hot and fresh, we’re now taking breakfast “appointments” on the weekends. No more waiting for a table or crowding at the buffet. Of course Chef Jeremy couldn’t resist fiddling with ‘ZEBO’s dinner menu. He’s added a mouthwatering “Surf n Turf” entrée, featuring his signature Filet Mignon with a Maine Lobster tail. Yummm!

Elk Cove Inn & Spa in the News

Two popular and influential web sites feature your favorite getaway

About and Sf StationAbout.Com was founded in 1996 and acquired by The New York Times in 2005. Each month more than 29 million people visit About.com. When you read an article on About.com, you are tapping into a powerful network of 500 Guides -- smart, passionate, accomplished people who are experts in their field. They said,

"Our stay at Elk Cove Inn was among the most pleasant I can remember. The property is beautiful, on the edge of a cliff with a driftwood-strewn beach below. The service was extraordinary, warm and friendly without being overwhelming, attentive to every request. From the comments I read in our room's guest book, many others have had a similar experience. If that were all the Elk Cove Inn had to offer, it would be a very nice place to stay. When you add their on-site restaurant and spa, it becomes the kind of place you could settle into for a relaxing weekend, never leaving the area from the time you arrive until you reluctantly head for home."

SFStation.com is the San Francisco Bay area's definitive online city guide to Arts & Culture, Entertainment, Food, Shopping, and Urban Living. They said, "…there is, indeed, a place where you can momentarily shelve your stresses, breathe deep some blessed "there's no one around for miles" air, and take comfort in the fact that your mobile phones are completely useless here. Who can resist enormous windows that overlook ocean grottoes and acres of pristine land? Elk Cove is the kind of place that was made for continual enchantment. Whether you're sipping Pernod and eating truffles in the comfort of your cottage, reading poetry and drinking wine in the gazebo, or hanging out with the estate's friendly cat on a garden bench, the entire experience is ridiculously idyllic."

TripAdvisor.com ranks the Elk Cove Inn & Spa as the #1 B&B in Elk. But you probably already knew that. Coming soon, look for a feature about the inn in the October issue of Modern Bride magazine.

Continuous Effort: Web Site Enhancements
Easier to find rooms – Instant, live chat with an Innkeeper

Technology just won't sit still and more and more saavy travellers are shopping the worldwide web. You just had to know we couldn't rest on our laurels.

Before, the only obvious way to get to see the individual rooms was from the Table on the "Rooms & Rates" page, and it was less than obvious that the images were "hot links" to them.

We also found that new visitors couldn't easily assess the value of our rooms from the table. So, to make things easier to find , we've separated the "Rooms & Rates" and "About the Inn" pages into three pages,. The new "Rates" button takes you to the Rate Table. The new "Rooms" button takes you to a new page about the rooms, with obvious links to the detail room Chat onlinepages. And a new "Overview" link on the right side of the screen takes you to a new summary page about the inn. Try it… you'll like it.

And now for something really new! While you're on-line, you can text chat, live, with an Innkeeper, who will answer all your questions. Right there! Instantly!

Greatest Guest Stories

In this section, we usually recall a story from one of our guest journals.
But this time, we’re compelled to recount an incredible story, you won’t find in a journal, about a couple who recently visited ….

“I’ll be visiting the inn with the man who proposed to me 54 years ago. You see, my husband died just a few months ago, and I need to get away….”

Bobbie and Pete met at a church picnic back in New England, in 1951. Each arrived with what the other thought was their date. Bobbie’s companion was just an acquaintance. As the four chatted, the girls and boys separated. Pete’s date evidently wasn’t too pleased with him and told Bobbie just how bad she thought he was. Bobbie saw nothing wrong and decided to see about this man for herself.

As they spoke, Pete thought, “I can see myself spending the rest of my life with this girl.” They dated a few times, and Bobbie met Pete’s parents, who immediately adored her. But Pete soon went off to college, and Bobbie was lured away by a job on the West Coast. They stayed in touch by telephone, and in one conversation, bold and direct as he was and still is today, Pete just asked, “Are you going to marry me or not?” Bobbie had just been offered an opportunity to travel around the world with her new roommate, and so the answer was, “Since I can’t say ‘Yes,’ I have to say ‘No.’” And with that, they went on their separate ways.

Though Pete didn’t know it, Bobbie visited his parents often after that. She rarely asked about him, assuming he was happily married, which it turns out, he was. While straightening out his Dad’s affairs after his father passed away, Pete found a photo he had taken the day of that long-ago church picnic. Bobbie was in the center, with Pete’s Mom on one side and his Dad on the other. Dad’s arm was around Bobbie’s waist. Pete remembered talking with his Dad that day, saying, “Hey, Dad, that’s my girl.” But Dad replied, “I found her first.” Reliving the memory, Pete sent the photo to Bobbie. Later, Bobbie invited Pete to a family reunion back east. When they parted, there was a long, lingering kiss. Bobbie downplays it, but her daughter clearly saw it and concluded that Pete was quite a catch. That moment renewed their correspondence. What happened next is a bit fuzzy to us, but suffice it to say that after Bobbie’s husband passed away, the two began seeing each other in earnest. Bobbie is still on the West Coast, and Pete is still back East. They get together every other month.

They are the most romantic, guests we have ever had the pleasure to meet. And each has a delightful sense of humor. Bobbie’s smile and her hugs are simply irresistible.

Should you ever question that there is love in this world or wonder if you’ll ever find your soul mate — as Christine and I have after 30 years — they are proof positive.

Bobbie and Pete, we love you and wish you all the happiness in the world!

David & Christine
